I've never been solely responsible for teaching a child to read before. It feels as daunting to me as potty training. How do you help a child get from point A to point B when you can't control them? It would be so much easier short term! I want Will to read. He is a bright little boy and I want everyone to know it...And that's where I go wrong. Learning to read/write/solve on a time table is exactly why we don't want him in public school. At least it's one of the reasons. Another big one is keeping him at a desk or sitting still any other way for most of the day. This article really helped me click everything back into perspective. Hours playing in the backyard on our swing set and digging in the garden plot are valid forms of school in kindergarten. Especially for Will right now. He's doing his reading prep work!
