Now That's Charity!
Last night, the kids wanted bananas right before bedtime, so I said they could split bananas. Will wanted none of that. He wanted that whole banana! After I pushed the issue, he said, "Okay," and took the peel off the banana. "Joe really wants this part." He then tried to give Joe the peel as his portion. He was not pleased when I made him give some of the good stuff. Actually, he was devastated.
(Side note: I hate it when something that isn't a big deal turns into one because of follow through.)

Wishful Thinking
August in North Carolina always makes me nastalgic for Utah autumns. The grey clouds hugging the tops of the crimson and gold covered mountains. The crisp air justifying pulling out the sweater collection. Apple cider and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. Ah well. Back to the humidity and the pool!

Pool starts with P which rhymes with T which stands for Trouble!
People are funny. At the pool this morning an older woman who was sun bathing with her daughter was getting very worked up over the nine children in the pool (five were mine and four were my friend's). She got more and more agitated until when we were leaving, she told me that my children were very badly behaved and she didn't know how me and my friend could watch 9 children at the pool. That was just too many and it made her nervous. And her daughter who has been a nanny for ten years agreed that 9 kids was too many for two people to keep track of. I replied that it's different when they're yours, and then walked away. How were our kids acting? They were a little grumpy. There was some fighting. They were playing with the rope divider until we took it away. Those were the things they were doing. They didn't break anything. They didn't hurt anyone. The babies never came close to falling in the water. We didn't make a mess with snacks. There was no potty talk. Not a stellar day at the pool, but worth being so blatantly rude? I had several scathing replies, but watching the lady say these super rude things in such a catty way right to my face, I just realized it wasn't worth it. She wanted a fight to justify her rudeness. I still wish I had! People! Sheesh.

William Gavin Naughty
I had to take Will out of church yesterday for bad behavior. We were sitting in the foyer and I told him we were out there because he was naughty. He said, 'No! I'm William Gavin!" I said, "Yes, you are William Gavin but you were also being naughty."
Later that afternoon, he ran downstairs and cheerfully proclaimed, "I'm William Gavin Naughty!"
