More Emmy Insights
Every night, as part of the bedtime routine, I sit with Emily and "chat." I love getting an idea of what her life is like from her point of view. Last night she told me she loves me because I make the best stuff in the oven. My cookies are apparently "awesome." In fact, a few days ago, Joe and Emily performed a song for me. Here are the lyrics that I can remember.

Family Dynamics
One of the most interesting things for me as a mom has been watching how my children interact with one another. Joe and Emily were buddies from the time Emily could smile. They loved reading together and, as she got older, putting on rock shows and other performances. Then Mary came and both fell in love with her. Her increased mobility coincided with Joe starting school. Mary and Emily became good friends and played all day while Joe was gone - or fought all day while Joe was gone, depending on the day. The dynamic has been a little tricky since then. We have had a major case of third wheel syndrome. Each of the three has taken their turn as the one left out. Over the last week or so, however, I've seen a shift. Mary has suddenly become interested in playing with Will. Will is now fully mobile and able to interact more interestingly for Mary. This morning, Mary and Will were presumably sleeping in (both had made middle of the night visits last night). Mary came down a little while after Matt went to work and announced that Will had lots of toys and they were playing, but I need to carry him. I went to get Will, and his crib was almost completely full of toys. He was just standing there looking as pleased as could be. I love seeing them get along, but I also love that the three child dynamic is disappearing. The kids start to finish are only 6 1/2 years apart, so hopefully this will be a continuing trend!

Proud
I went jogging this morning. I have been trying to get in shape for a relay that I am running in the future. It's amazing how motivations to lose weight were never enough for me. I had to have a concrete goal and someone depending on me to get me actually moving. Of course, it also helped that my youngest is older than a year.

Spider!
We have our fair share of ants and spiders at our house. I've tried to help the kids take a more scientific approach to the bugs so that they don't get so scared of them. However, it seems that Emily is inherently afraid of bugs and while Joe likes to pretend to not be scared, he gets just as frightened as Emily. Mary on the other hand...

The Boys
It seems that we highlight Emily and Mary a lot on this blog because they are always saying the funniest things, but Joe is getting quite a sense of humor and Will...is...well, a cute little baby.

Emily was talking about a cartoon where the character drank milk and in her words "Got his tough up."

Please, sir, may I have some more?
Will's one word: "Ma!" It can be used for "mom," "That's mine," or "Feed me now before I blow a gasket."
