The Gift That Keeps On Giving

So, today is my birthday.  And now I'm sick.  I guess it's the mode de jour this year.  One nice thing about being sick on your birthday is that it's double reason to be pampered.  Moms don't usually get sick days but when it's Sunday and your birthday and your husband is wonderful, yay for sick days.  Alright.  I'm going to lie back down.

Ten

Today, my baby turns ten. Birthdays are such wonderful times to sit and reflect on the blessing that someone is in your life.  I am constantly humbled by the amazing child that Heavenly Father sent to me.  On Thursday afternoon, I picked Joe and Mary up from school (Emily stayed home with the flu) and we headed off to Mary's dance class.  As soon as Joe sat by Emily, Emily snuggled into his shoulder and promptly fell asleep. Joe, who predictably had a book open in his lap, leaned his head on hers and continued to read.    That little moment illustrates to me who Joe is.

So, he has been planning his birthday party.  For months.  He had every detail planned, from the snacks to the invitations and decorations.  He was excited and his friends couldn't wait...and then his sister was generous enough to share her flu.  He woke up this morning feeling pretty miserable.  So, we rescheduled the party and he has been reading his presents all day.  Lots of books.  That's what you get to make Joe happy. He was actually really great about having to reschedule.  He's such a great boy.

So, I have been a parent for an entire decade.  Crazy.
